The first ICAT project supported Tajikistan in developing and enhancing its capacity for the preparation of its greenhouse gas inventory and conducting policy impact assessments, to comply with UNFCCC reporting requirements. The ongoing second project is supporting Tajikistan in strengthening its technical and institutional capacity to develop and regularly update greenhouse gas projections for NDC updating, tracking, and reporting. Tajikistan is also a member of the Regional Climate Action Transparency Hub for Central Asia.

Overview
Building and enhancing Tajikistan’s capacity to develop and regularly update greenhouse gas projections that inform NDC updates and to improve reporting on greenhouse gas projections under the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) of the Paris Agreement. Building national capacity for greenhouse gas projections is essential for ensuring country ownership of climate policy, long-term sustainability, and credibility in international reporting. The scope of work for this project will therefore seek to:
- Develop a data structure, institutional arrangements, and strengthen the datasets for the preparation of greenhouse gas projections for all sectors, and enhance Tajikistan's capacity to perform sensitivity analysis of greenhouse gas projections.
- Enhance Tajikistan's capacity to assess the mitigation impact of policies and measures and develop policy-relevant Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) frameworks.
- Building national institutional capacities and a framework for greenhouse gas projections.
- Impact assessment and implementation tracking of the selected policies and measures as contained in the WAM scenario.
- Project closure.
