About the tool
The Greenhouse Gas Abatement Cost Model (GACMO) is an emission's projection tool that allows countries to carry out rapid, accurate scenario analyses of how a variety of mitigation options across different economic sectors impact emissions. Thereby, it increases transparency and contributes to informed decision-making.
The tool can provide government experts with valuable input for preparing and updating NDCs by identifying NDC targets for emissions reductions and by providing assessments of future emissions in different climate action scenarios. It can also help reporting through the biennial transparency reports under the Paris Agreement.
A new version of GACMO was released in 2024. The new version follows the same methodological approach, but has a user-friendly step-by-step improved interface, and comes with detailed guidance and two video tutorials.
Why use GACMO?
- Develop emission scenarios
- Compare mitigation strategies.
- Estimate greenhouse gas reductions
- Track NDC progress
- Analyze cost-effectiveness
